Proper master level meter with dB scale, true peak, better response and VST inserts.
It's something that it's not on par with all the goodness of DJ.Studio, I'd say it's its weakest point, it's designed to be automatic and limits the volume on its own but it needs to sound and behave better. We need a good master level meter just as in DAWs. Vote for this guys and girls, It'll make your mixes sound a lot better!!!

I’d also really appreciate a more detailed guide on when to use the different gain controls, when to use compression (and what it does - I’m new to this!). The current mastering and samples video moves over it very quickly.

At least, for me the level meter shows "some" level which seems to be random. The update frequency is too low. Some readings will be low, some will be high...a matter of chance. Snd there's no max-hold either. Would be great to see this improved.

The update frequency is much higher now and we have a master tab with a fast responsive spectrum analyzer.
