Current Behavior:
Currently, gain adjustments are applied uniformly across the entire track with no option for automation. This creates limitations when trying to make dynamic volume adjustments, particularly when working with stem tracks.
Requested Enhancement:
Add automation capabilities to the gain control, similar to how effects can be automated:
Enable automation markers for gain adjustments
Allow precise control over when and how gain changes are applied
Implement smooth gain transitions using automation curves
Use Case:
A common scenario where this feature is needed is when working with stem tracks during song outros:
When vocal stems naturally fade out during an outro
DJs need to selectively boost certain elements (like vocals) while leaving other elements at their original volume
Current workarounds using EQ boosting are imprecise and can create sudden volume jumps
Current Workaround Limitations: The existing workaround of using EQ automation has several drawbacks:
EQ controls are not adjustable within transition windows
Creates sudden volume jumps rather than smooth transitions
Affects the audio quality by using EQ for volume control
Less precise than direct gain control would be
Benefits:
More precise control over track dynamics
Cleaner, more professional-sounding transitions
Better handling of stem tracks
Elimination of workarounds that compromise audio quality
Improved workflow efficiency
