DJ Style Loop instead of insert loop

Feature Request

The current loop effect is nice when you know exactly what you want to loop and how many times. But when you’re experimenting with different spots to loop to determine the sound and how well it flows, a more traditional “DJ-Style” loop would be very helpful. By this I mean that I pick the bars to loop, and when the play head gets there, it just…loops. I understand that it doesn’t quite fit into the daw methodology…. but since this is the DAW for DJ’s, I think a DJ-type Loop would be a great addition.

For now I’m jumping back to Audacity or even Rekordbox to find my loop spots, and then coming back to DJ.Studio once I’ve found them. But would love to say here through the process.

    yes, a temporary loop ‘button’ would be perfect! This is the use case I have in mind, needing a temporary loop of something for testing purposes “is this the right 4 measures to loop”, “would this drum sample sound good here”, etc. Then if it was to be part of the final timeline, duplicating it as needed makes sense. It’s the spur of the moment “I wonder…” times that having a temporary loop is so helpful and I find myself having to hit duplicate a bunch of times just to test something.

    Hmm, we would loop our timeline, and it would become infinite. That's against all the rules of a timeline editor. We could do something like this during playback, maybe. Just like the real loop button, you activate it on the beat where you are at that moment. That could be done. But as soon as you stop playing, the loop would be gone. We are releasing a big update to our FX pack where we do the same. We have a difference between playback and “design time.” You will see it this week.

    The more I think about it, my suggestion would be to rename the current functionality “Duplicate” and then have the repeat in place functionality called loop or Repeat. This would be much closer to matching the functionality of Rekordbox, Audacity, Reaper, etc. I’d be very surprised if the current functionality is what most people expect when they pick “loop” from the menu.
