1st Impressions - Room for Improvements

Feature Request

Bear in mind, new user, been in the business for over 35 years, never expected to do mixes in the box but saw the YouTube video and said why not I'll bite. Purchased full version and these are 1st impressions without going through every post on this forum.

Library Management

Cannot adjust columns

Cannot change attributes ex show directory or folder

Cannot import Mixed in Key library to a folder structure

12k songs with no playlist or folder? Impossible to manage

Cannot Display Mixed in Key attributes in Collection when using iTunes import

Cannot direct access library, open program defaults to home - no library option shown

Local Music defaults to start new mix in fact no option of library visible

iTunes folder to Mix results in a new Mixed in Key scan for files already containing MIK data

AutoMix millions of combinations comical just use a progress bar

Staring a mix with songs alredy in MIK painfully slow!

Grab 12 songs and create a new mix and you wait for each song to rekey and rebeatgrid makes no sense

Automix added same song twice, playlist not intuitive as to how to delete

no right click delete only trash can button on extreme right after a bit of searching

Can't search a genre in library view only sort - searched for bass house produced that genre plus anything with house

MIK Cue points not importing or showing in track

    I wanted to revisit this post as it's been 3 months since I wrote it and honestly I have to admit WOW this is a great product! I'm doing 1 to 2 mixes a week which might be nothing to some but a lot to me since I'm all but retired as a club jock and now just a bedroom DJ that wants great mixes for airplane and long car rides.

    The new variable BPM function is amazing, I pulled together a Classic Disco set that I would have done in the club back in the early 80's and Studio actually did some of the mixes better than I could have done them when I was at the top of my game!

    That leads me to 1 simple request. Can you make it so that if you are doing a classic mix, you can select all tracks and change them to Variable rather than having to go into each song and make the change. For all I know you already have this as a shortcut key but I wasn't able to find it.

    Really amazed at what this can do and so happy I found it and opted to do the full license!

      >> yes that's on the list to improve over the next few months

      >> DJ.Studio only shows the data from your existing music library.

    • Cannot import Mixed in Key library to a folder structure
      >> DJ.Studio is not build to work as a music library. If you have all your tracks organized in MIK, you can browse those playlists etc from within DJ.Studio and you only add the tracks to DJ.Studio that you want in your mix.

    • 12k songs with no playlist or folder? Impossible to manage
      >> DJ.Studio is not build to work as your music library. you just keep the 12K songs in MIK

    • Cannot Display Mixed in Key attributes in Collection when using iTunes import
      >> Are those MIK attribute visible in iTunes? Our iTunes screen only shows the info that is in iTunes.

    • Cannot direct access library, open program defaults to home - no library option shown

    • Local Music defaults to start new mix in fact no option of library visible
      >> Did you go to Settings> Library to enable the music libraries that you are using? When you click New mix > Local music > Add tracks, you should see the libraries and enable you to browse them to find the tracks you want to add.

    • iTunes folder to Mix results in a new Mixed in Key scan for files already containing MIK data
      >> MIK scan retrieves MIK Key, energy level per track and energy segments. That information is not available in iTunes. So that's why the analysis is done.

    • AutoMix millions of combinations comical just use a progress bar
      >> I won't comment on that

    • Staring a mix with songs alredy in MIK painfully slow!
      >> At the moment it takes a few songs per track to get all the information and create the beatgrid and an image of the waveform. We will make that faster in the upcoming months.

      >> that's something our software needs. I am sorry.

    • Automix added same song twice, playlist not intuitive as to how to delete
      >> if you select a song for the second time, our software should have shown a warning, asking you if you wanted to add the track twixe. you didn't see that screen?
      >> delete track can be done when you hoover over a track in the playlist

    • no right click delete only trash can button on extreme right after a bit of searching
      >> right click menu is a great idea. We spoke about that internally, but we didn't implement it yet.

    • Can't search a genre in library view only sort - searched for bass house produced that genre plus anything with house
      >> that's definitely something we will need to add

      >> The cue points should have been imported. Can you check at Settings > Interface > Mixed In Key to see of the cue points are set to On?

      Fleur 1st off thank you for the direct response, let me clarify a couple of points and thank you for letting me provide my feedback. It's important to let you know, I'm not a newcomer to DJ'ing, I started my first club gig in 1985, have played on turntables, CD-J's, adopted Serato and Controllers and only now decided to play with software mixing just to have the opportunity to do something different and still create sets for personal consumption while no longer playing out or being a resident club jock.

      I have a background in electrical engineering and my basis for my review was on a simple principal I learned early on in my engineering career Human Factors & Ergonomics ie how will a user take to a product and does that product make sense. I offer that I'm in a box and maybe your software's design and approach will be like Apple products, I don't know what I want, you do and I just have to adapt :)

      Let me quickly answer your points to my original message.

      ML - My point here is that once I press Start New Mix other than just Title/Artist (which I feel should be individual columns) Genre, Date, Length and BPM, give us the options of what to show, maybe I don't care about the date or runtime but I would like to see the "comments" flag, or my star rating from iTunes, only an example.

      ML - This was my 1st point regarding ergonomics and Human Factors, you mention that this is not a library tool however once you enter the Start a New Mix, you're presented with your library so that you can select songs. Maybe a user might want to view their entire library up front, side step the need to press start a new mix, select 20 songs and then press create the new mix, a little shift in the process or maybe an option if a user like me (old school) wants inspiration from their collection. This over time may be a moot point as I adapt, but again this about first impressions.

      That said, I did take your advise, went back into Mixed in Key and created a clone of my iTunes playlists and now both iTunes and Mixed in Key both display the collection in DJ.Studio.

      ML - I should have stated that I'm referring to attributes set by Mixed in Key and placed in the comments field as my entire library has a MIK analysis done "before" it's sorted into directory folders, the information is the MP3 ID-Tag, DJ.Studio is NOT picking up on that in the library display -

      ML - iTunes does allow you show key information, from a playlist press CNTRL-J > View As Songs > Check the box for BPM & Comments iTunes will display the information in your tracks that Mixed in Key wrote to the MP3-ID Tag.

      ML - I'm happy to report that I re-installed, re-booted and the cue points are now indeed showing.

      I sincerely appreciate your response to my original post, I don't want to be a pain but I did just want to provide feedback on what I saw when I first played with the program. I have mad respect for coding, I can't do it and I know what it takes, trust me!

      I do have 1 more comment, request if you will, give us the ability to delete a transition. I may want to chop up a song and because of that the transition just gets in the way, it sits at the start of 1 song and end of another, I feel that if given the option to delete the transition, chop up the song a bit and then click on the transition desired and add filter effects to taste, that might play out better. I have found times where my need to get the sound I expect, requires a lot of manipulation of both the transition and the track in deck 1 and deck 2. Just something else to consider.
